Governor MacLehose takes office

Governor Murray MacLehose and his wife arrived in Hong Kong on the afternoon of 19 November 1971. The couple boarded the Lady Maurine, the governor’s official yacht, which took them across Victoria Harbour. The governor, dressed in a white uniform, disembarked at Queen’s Pier in Central, where he reviewed a guard of honour. He then proceeded to the concert hall in Hong Kong City Hall and was sworn in by the Chief Justice, Ivo Rigby, as Hong Kong’s 25th governor.
