Grandstand, Happy Valley Racecourse, c. 1870s

Spectator stands providing good vantage points are just essential for horse racing sport. This multi-storey Grandstand was the major spectator facility at the Happy Valley Racecourse until 1893. The wooden structure in darker colour offered seats for watching the race and the ground floor was reserved for pari-mutuel betting entertainment.
