A native of Shandong, Chi Woo Wha was born in 1935. He eventually came to Hong Kong in 1948 and studied in school for three years. Around 1952 and 1953, Chi Woo Wha joined South Sea Textile Manufacturing Company and was posted to its weaving plant. After a two-year apprenticeship, he became a master technician. In 1957, Chi Woo Wha moved to Central Textiles’ spinning factory engaging in machinery installation. The following year, he joined South Asia Textiles taking charge of industrial operations and had worked there for 3 years. He subsequently spent over a year with Liberty Weaving Factory as head of machinery maintenance. He was asked to return to Central Textiles’ weaving factory to be in charge of machine maintenance and safety. In 1969, he left Central Textiles for Nigeria, Africa. In 1973, he returned to Hong Kong and re-joined Central Textiles as an engineer in the weaving factory. When the weaving factory moved from Sha Tsui Road to Kong Nam Industrial Building on Castle Peak Road and the factory was re-named Central Fabrics Ltd. in 1989, Chi Woo Wha was promoted to factory manager.
