Between 1971 and 1980, Wah Kiu Yat Po and the National Lacquer And Paint Products Company jointly organised the “Gold Camel Award for Top Ten Singers” contest and award presentation ceremony each year. It was the one and only singers voting contest, and was generally regarded as the annual report of Hong Kong’s pop scene in the 1970s. Therefore awardees were eager to show up at the ceremonies over the years.
