  • Lunchtime Concert of Pop Music for the Festival of Hong Kong 1969 (1)
    Concerts were held at lunchtime every Sunday at Statue Square and Ocean Terminal. The performers included the Auxiliary Fire Services Department, Royal Hong Kong Police Band, Royal Auxiliary Police band, Royal Hong Kong Police Band and several other music bands. The photo shows one of the pop music bands playing music at Ocean Terminal.

    Fire float "Alexander Grantham" put on illuminated water display at various harbour points in Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. The venues included the waterfronts at Western District, Central District, Wan Chai, Quarry Bay, Shau Kei Wan; in Kowloon, Yau Ma Tei, Sham Shui Po, Lai Chi Kok and Hung Hom. It was held from 9 to 15 December 1969. "Alexander Grantham" was built by Whampoa Dock, Hong Kong. It was put into service in 1953 and decommissioned in 2002. During the time it was in service, it had always been a core member of the Fire Services Department’s fleet of fire fighting vessels and took part in numerous fire fights and maritime rescue missions involving major vessels and fires along the coast. The vessel also performed at important festivals. Alexander Grantham witnessed the history of fire services development in Hong Kong, and is itself a testament to the achievements of Hong Kong’s shipbuilding industry in the 1950s.
