Japanese military notes (1)
After occupying Hong Kong, military notes were issued for everyday use. To start with, the exchange rate was one military yen to two Hong Kong dollars, but it was later raised to one military yen to four Hong Kong dollars. From 1 June 1943, it was no longer possible to exchange Hong Kong dollars for Japanese military yen, which then became Hong Kong's only legal currency.
