Hanford Chinese Cemetery in California, United States (1)

The Hanford Chinese Cemetery in California, the United States, was established in 1891 by the Sam Yup Association and restored in 2003. During the Chinese Exclusion period, it was impossible for Chinese to be buried in well-equipped public graveyards. Funerals were arranged by such geographically oriented organisations as benevolent associations, or the remains were repatriated to mainland China. Sometimes, funds were raised to build Chinese cemeteries.
