Happy Valley Racecourse, 1858

This illustration from The Illustrated London News gives us a glimpse of flat racing in Happy Valley in the mid 19th century. Besides capturing a scene of racegoers holding umbrellas to enjoy the fierce pony race in the sunny day, this picture also clearly shows the Wong Nei Chung area, the small river that is named by its yellow colour.
