City Hall and Dent's Fountain, Central District

The City Hall was built by public contributions in 1867, and was completed in 1869. It was formally inaugurated by H.R.H. Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, on 2nd November 1869. The building was partly demolished in 1933 to make way for the present day Hongkong and Shanghai Bank Building and was completely pulled down in 1947. The Bank of China Building was eventually erected on the site. The Dent's Fountain, which was donated by John Dent in 1864, later fell into disuse because of water shortage.
