Farewell to the retiring B.C.K.Hawkins

Picture taken at retirement and departure of Mr. B.C.K.Hawkins, Secretary for Chinese Affairs. The Government Officers used to be named Secretary for Chinese Affairs, and managed such issues as tenancy, domestic disputes, issuing of alcohol license, and publication. The picture captures Hawkins as he departed for England and reviewed the district watchmen, before crossing the harbour to Kowloon Wharf and taking a liner back home. Because Ho Sau was his personal chauffeur, even though other reporters could only take photos from the side, he was allowed to take photos from the front. On the left is the Jardine Building; in the middle the Mercury Building; on the right is the Hong Kong Club.
