Since the commencement of broadcasting in 1928, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) has been striving to provide the public with useful general information and enjoyable entertainment, as well as promoting local culture, history and art. As the only public service broadcaster in Hong Kong and the broadcasting organisation with the longest history, RTHK has always played an important role in the history of the advancement of broadcasting industry in Hong Kong.

The year 2018 marks the 90th anniversary of public service broadcasting in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Heritage Museum and RTHK co-organised the exhibition “90 Years of Public Service Broadcasting in Hong Kong” during November 2018 and February 2019. Through the presentation of precious artefacts, photographs and audio-visuals collected by RTHK, along with a reconstruction of recording studio and scenes from classic programmes, the public would revisit the development of Hong Kong’s broadcasting industry and RTHK in the past nearly a century.

Materials in this collection mainly draw from the aforementioned exhibition, together with valuable materials provided by various organisations and individuals. This collection offers an opportunity for the public to know more about different periods and development of RTHK and the broadcasting industry in Hong Kong, as well as reminiscing about timeless programmes of the bygone days, revisiting the way Hong Kong transformed and mellowed, and the collective memory of all.
