Most Durable DJ – Uncle Ray (1924-2023)

Born as Reinaldo Maria Cordeiro on December 12, 1924, Uncle Ray is a famous disc jockey in Hong Kong who has devoted his life to the development of radio broadcasting and the local music scene.

Uncle Ray hosted his legendary longest-running show “All the Way with Ray” for over half a century at RTHK Radio 3. He was honoured with an MBE Medal in 1987 and a Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2008. Paul Anka, the famous singer and close friend of Uncle Ray, presented him with a “Life Time Achievement in Broadcasting Award” on behalf of RTHK in 1997, and Guinness World Records recognised him as “The World’s Most Durable Radio DJ” in 2000.

The King of Radio Broadcast – Chung Wai Ming (1931-2009)

Gifted with an articulate voice, Hong Kong born and bred broadcaster Chung Wai Ming charmed countless listeners since the 1950s. His storytelling and radio dramas were so popular that he became a household name and earned the title of “The King of Radio Broadcast”. He also became the first-ever Chinese broadcaster to receive an MBE Medal in 1992. He was presented with "Life Time Achievement in Broadcasting Award" in 1998. In 2007, RTHK organised Evergreen Broadcaster of Hong Kong, an event to pay tribute to Chung Wai Ming, the King of Radio Broadcast, for his contribution to the radio broadcasting industry in the past 60 years. When Chung Wai Ming passed away in 2009, he was still hosting elderly radio programmes on Radio 5 and morning programme on Radio 1.
