  • Particulars of graduation examination for local registered secondary schools received
    The Department of Education of Kwangtung Province had announced that graduation examinations for the 20th summer term students of Cantonese schools and teachers’colleges would be held from 26th June to 10th July 1936. The examination dates for Hong Kong schools were 26th June to 4th July. The report included a list of participating school, notes of examination and criteria of assessment.

     

  • Forum for Chinese registered schools
     The Chinese registered schools in Hong Kong had decided to organize a Forum for the enhancement of inter-school relations and improvement of effectiveness of the Chinese registered schools.
  • Summer workshops for middle school teachers
     The Ministry of Education had decided to hold summer workshops for teachers of overseas Chinese secondary schools in the summer holiday. Hsu Ti-shan and Irene Cheng were among those appointed to the committee.
  • Application for central admission to national universities and colleges starts today
    Announcement of central admission to national universities and colleges in 1940: The Hong Kong office of universities in Kunming started accepting applications from today. Prospectuses were available to interested candidates at the admission office set up in Sai Nam Secondary School. The report also included an extract released by the admission office.
  • Xu Di Shan's comment on the cultural collaboration between China and Britain
     The University of Hong Kong had set up a special committee to explore ways to promote cooperation between HKU and the literary sector of mainland China. The reporter interviewed Professor Hsu Ti-shan,the Head f the Chinese Department (also known as Institute of Chinese Studies), HKU and asked for his opinion. Hsu suggested that more Chinese literature should be used as teaching materials in HKU, and the Chinese government should send officers to Hong Kong for annual inspection.
  • The Director of Education will amend the curriculum of Chinese for all schools in Hong Kong
     The Director of Education set up a vernacular curriculum review committee headed by the Inspector of Vernacular Schools, Wan Yiu Sing.  Its aim was to compile a new curriculum that would meet contemporary needs and set up a standard for various schools. It was hoped that all schools would be asked to use the new textbooks in the following term.
