Introduction

School journals, magazines, reports and prospectuses aim to present a unique image of the school— its ideals and achievements, as well as the life of students— in varied styles and formats. Some are more formal and serious while some emphasize on students’ initiative and participation. Essays of students published in school magazines often identify topics of concerns in the immediate political and social contexts. School publications deposited in this Collection include those of Christian grant-in-aid schools, government schools, and private schools, specifically a group of ‘overseas Chinese schools’ disappeared from the landscape of Hong Kong education after the War. The publications are significant primary sources filling gaps in history of private vernacular schools in early twentieth century Hong Kong.
