The Hong Kong Stadium, c. 1990s
In 1991, The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced to support the Government in redeveloping the stadium. At the same time the Club made available a funding of HK$850 million as a special donation and offered support in project management. The donation was a gift to the community to mark the twenty years of the professional racing in Hong Kong. The new Hong Kong Stadium was officially opened by the then Governor Christopher Patten on 11 March 1994.
