Sha Tin Jockey Club Public Swimming Pool, 1981
In June 1978, the Jockey Club’s Chairman Peter Gordon Williams suggested to the then Governor Sir Murray MacLehose to nominate a community project for the Sha Tin residents to commemorate the opening of the Sha Tin Racecourse. As a result, the Sha Tin Jockey Club Swimming Pool and Squash Courts was erected on the bank of the Shing Mun River. The Club not only paid for the entire project cost HK$33 million, it was also responsible for the planning and supervision of its construction. Opening ceremony took place in the afternoon of 16 April 1981.
