The Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong (CMA) has organized some competition activities at the exhibitions, in which photography competition has the longest history. In the 1950s when photography has become a more popular leisure activity in Hong Kong, CMA invited visitors to take pictures at the exhibition venue. Gateways of the exhibitions, exhibition booths and people at the exhibitions are common themes for the early photography contests. In order to attract more photographers to join the contests, later on models and famous actors were invited for shooting as one of the themes of the competition.
