Douglas Castle
Built by a Scotsman named Douglas Lapraik in 1861 on Pokfulam Road, Douglas Castle was sold to the French Mission in 1894 . It was rebuilt, enlarged by the addition of a chapel and a printing workshop for priests to publish translated scriptures. The castle was later renamed 'Nazareth House'. In 1954, the University of Hong Kong purchased it and converted it into a residence hall for male students. It is now known as University Hall. As the only surviving castle in Hong Kong, Douglas Castle was patterned after 14th century Gothic design. The elegant colonial style corridors were designed to combat the heat.
