Brief History:

Amoy Food Limited (‘Amoy’) was established in 1927 from the amalgamation of two companies: Tao Fa and Dai Tung and jointly managed by the Wong and Cheng families. At the time, Amoy had a production plant in Gulangyu Island, Xiamen and mainly engaged in sauce production. In 1929, Amoy established another plant in Ngau Chi Wan, Hong Kong producing sauce, condiment, pickles, canned fruits, etc. Later its business was extended to Southeast Asia, Europe and U.S.A. In 1947, the main plant was relocated from Xiamen to Hong Kong. In 1954, Amoy was listed in Hong Kong for fund-raising purpose. In 1957, Amoy became the agent and producer of Green Spot orange juice. In the early 1950s, Amoy expanded its business to the production of atomic radio and corrugated paper products. In the period between 1950s and 1960s, Amoy set up production plants in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. In 1972, the British Sime Darby Group became a shareholder of Amoy. In 1977, Amoy became the agent and producer of 7 soft drink brands including Pepsi Cola. In 1978, Hang Lung Development Co. Ltd became a shareholder of Sime Darby Group. Later on, Amoy’s production plants were moved to Tsuen Wan one after another. Amoy acquired the brand 'Royal Dragon' in 1982 to extend its business scope to frozen dim sum. In 1983, the US Pillsbury became a shareholder of Amoy by acquiring half of Amoy's shares from Hang Lung Development Co. Ltd. In 1987, the Amoy plants were moved to Tai Po Industrial Estate. In the period between 1970s and 1980s, the businesses of beverage, canned food, corrugated paper products and radio ceased. In 1991, the French BSN Group became a shareholder of Amoy. In 1994, Amoy set up plants in Shenzhen and Shanghai. In 2006, Amoy became a member of the Japanese company Ajinomoto Co. Inc.
