Company Introduction

Company Name: Fountain Set Limited

Year of Founding: 1969

Mainstream Products: Dyeing, Knitting

Brief History:

Fountain Set Limited (“Fountain Set”) was founded in 1969 under the initial name of Globe Dyeing Factory. It was jointly funded and operated by Ha Chung Fong and friends. The factory was first located in a mere 7,500-square-foot site in Ka Ming Court on 690 Castle Peak Road. Having hired around 20 workers, it helped Hong Kong’s fabric factories carry out dyeing procedures. In 1970, the factory was moved to Chai Wan Kok Street Tsuen Wan (i.e. the nine miles on Castle Peak Road), where it started making fabric using knitting techniques. Globe Dyeing Factory was moved again to Tuen Mun in 1979/80. It rented the no.9 factory building owned by the Tin family. The new site occupied an approximately 200,000-square-foot area. The factory did not just dye fabric and coloured textile, but also carried out research to develop towels, velours and knitted fabric for the making of pyjamas, children’s clothing, sportswear, etc. Globe Dyeing Factory gradually grew from being just a small dyeing factory to a manufacturer with diverse fabric product lines.

In 1981, Ha Chung Fong renamed Globe Dyeing Factory into Fountain Set Limited. On one hand, they dyed and weaved according to what the clients ordered; on the other, they sold their own finished fabric. In 1988, Fountain Set became a listed company and again changed its name to Fountain Set (Holdings) Limited. In 1990, Fountain Set opened a dyeing factory called Lake Side Textiles Printing & Dyeing Co., Ltd. (“Lake Side”) in Tuen Mun to produce fabric with printed patterns. To meet the government’s sewage treatment requirements, the factory also built a waste water processing facility.

Fountain Set had placed its focus on developing new fabric types and new printing techniques since the founding of Lake Side. Today, there are more than 70 people in the development team, including specialists with the Master Degree in Textiles. This enabled Fountain Set not only to diversify its business by introducing their own self-made products, but also produce bespoke fabrics that suit the clients’ specific needs.

Since the 1990s, Fountain Set has set up factories in China, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka. Their work now spans across the entire production flow from dyeing to cotton textile, knitting, printing and garment-making. This presents a vertical organisational structure in the textile and garment industry that facilitates one-stop production.
