Tou Kuan (Chang Chan-peng) is a wealthy Kwangtung brat with a good kung fu background. He injures someone during a row with a rival (Wong Jing) and his mother, after bailing him out at huge expense, sends him to the Capital to compete for the hand of a princess in an effort to make him settle down. His uncle Shih Chun (Chan Shen) is meanwhile after his family property and employs killer San Ching (Wang Lung-wei) to deal with him. San Ching’s hired men go unrecognized, but are so badly beaten up that San Ching himself is provoked into pursuit.Tou Kuan has only one ambition: to pit his wits against three shady masters of the North. The first, conman Che Tsai (Alexander Fu Sheng), lands him in such personal trouble that his attendant Mai Chung has to extricate him.The second, a professional romantic dubbed The Terrific (Nat Chen Pai-chiang), competes with him for the hand of Eva, a Russian Ambassador’s daughter. Tou Kuan wins the contest with the help of Mai who has won the favors of another Russian lady. He and Terrific become good friends.Terrific introduces him to his third rival, Thief Shih San-shou (Wang Yu). Tou Kuan challenges the thief to prevent him from stealing his jade. The competition ends in a draw, but San Ching’s killer, who is still after Tou Kuan, is a accidentally captured in the scuffle. Tou Kuan realized the plot against him; the killer is arrested with the help of his two earlier rivals and of Mai’s Russian lady, but San Ching escapes.As Tou Kuan lavishes his attentions on Eva, San Ching bursts in. His friends and Mai Chung are just able to rescue him and together they kill San Ching.
