A + bitter feud exists between the Chao Clan and its rivals, the Tang Clan.Chao Wu-chi (Ti Lung) of the Chao Clan is to marry Wei Feng-niang (Hsiao Yao), but at the wedding feast the bridegroom is absent, due to having gone to fight a duel with Tu Hu-Hsing. Chao Wu-chi returns home triumphant, but is shocked to find the headless body of his father, and to find that a jade ornament in the shape of a tiger, is missing too. The Tangs had sent ruffians to disrupt the wedding feast, as Shang Kuan-yin (Ku Feng) went to the Tangs’ stronghold to deliver the head of Chao’s father, and to claim the 200,000 taels of silver reward.Chao Wu-chi is informed that a certain person, named “Hsi Shih” has infiltrated the Tangs’ stronghold, and at some point plans to rise up and help avenges the murder of Chao’s father.Chao Wu-chi bids his wife farewell, and goes alone to seek out his father’s killers. En route, he is poisoned by the Tangs, but is rescued and taken to the hideout of a roving band, led by Ma Che Yi-yen, who later advises Chao to seek the healing powers of Tang Ao (Yueh Hua) and his sister, Tang Yue (Shih Szu). After seeking them out, Chao’s health is restored and as it turns out, Ao and Yue are in fact henchmen for the Tangs, but secretly hate them for their wicked deeds. Chao Wu-chi encounters Tang Yu (Derek Yee) and kills him. Aided by Ao and Yue, Chao Wu–chi succeeds in deceiving Tang Chieh (Lo Lieh) into believing that he has brought back the body of Tang Yu because he is his friend. Once inside the Tang stronghold, a mysterious man, Shang Kuan-yin, rescues Chao Wu-chi when he is surrounded by Tang guards. Shang tells Chao Wu-chi that his father had committed suicide by ordering Shang to cut off his head and deliver it to the Tangs, in order to convince them that he his friendly. A note written by Chao’s father and concealed in the jade tiger bears his story out.To further win over the Tangs, Shang Kuan-yin suggests that Chao Wu-chi marries Tang Yue, who of course is unaware of his true identity. The marriage is arranged.Meanwhile, Wei Feng-niang, accompanied by Chao’s sister, Chao Chien-chien (Lily Li), goes to the Tangs looking for her husband. When he sees her, Chao Wu-chi denies that she is his wife. Wei Feng-niang realizes that her husband has some ulterior motive in denying the truth, and so she commits suicide. Tang Yue also kills herself when she learns that her newly wed husband Chao, is in fact a sworn enemy of her clan. By that time, the Tangs are engaged in battling against Chao Wu-chi and Shang Kuan-yin. Thanks to the timely intervention of “His Shih,” the Tangs are defeated.After annihilating the Tangs, Chao Wu-chi refuses to accept fame and honour.
