Tasselled Spear

A martial arts student since young, Sek Kin was an expert in many schools of martial arts and a wide range of weapons and he considered the tasselled spear the most lethal of all. Prior to Enter the Dragon (1973), Sek and his tasselled spear took on Kwan Tak Hing and his umbrella in Wong Fei-hung in Sulphur Valley (1969), creating one of the classic combat scenes in Hong Kong cinema.

The tasselled spear’s long striking distance and strong penetrability earn it the title ‘The King of Weapons’. The spear played a crucial part in ancient warfare. The red tassel under the spear point is more than just decorative but is practical in distracting an opponent. Also called the ‘blood-blocker’, it prevents the opponent’s blood from flowing down the shaft, making it slippery or sticky to grip.

Sek Kin trained with this tasselled spear.
