Zhua

Any unusual weapon shaped like a human hand or an animal claw can be called a zhua. A zhua can take many forms: it can be five outstretched fingers, a closed fist, or a palm with the index and middle fingers sticking out.

This prop is one of the many forms of zhua.

Ji Chunhua used zhua as a weapon in Kids from Shaolin (1984). One kind of the zhua mimics a hand holding a pen and is called bi nie zhua (literally, ‘pen nipping zhua’) which is said to have been used by famed general Li Cunxiao in the Tang dynasty, the titular character of The Birth of Kiddy Stone (1949) played by Yu Kai.
