The Sha Tin Racecourse under construction, 1978
In the mid-1960s, the Club decided to build a second racecourse at Sha Tin.
The racecourse is built on a 250-acre reclaimed land. The facilities at Sha Tin Racecourse include stables, an equine hospital, a racing laboratory, members’ facilities, stands, three tracks, and an Infield Park (later renamed Penfold Park). Except for the land which the racecourse and its facilities sit on, the remaining 160 acres of reclaimed land were handed over to the Government for other purposes, including the construction of the Jubilee Sports Institute (later renamed the Hong Kong Sports Institute).
