The Hong Kong SAR Government announced the "Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong" (the Representative List) in 2017, which covers 20 items of high cultural value and with an urgent need for preservation.

During 2016 to 2017, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office hosted a thematic exhibition entitled "The Oral Legacies I: Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong Exhibition". The public is introduced to the features of each of the ten national ICH items in the exhibition.

"The Oral Legacies Series II: the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong" exhibition held between February 2018 and February 2020 is an extension of its predecessor. This exhibition focuses on ten other new items that have been incorporated into the Representative List. These include items with significant values of arts, history and craftsmanship, such as Nanyin (southern tunes), Technique of Making Hong Kong Cheongsam and Kwan Kwa Wedding Costume, the Paper Crafting Technique, and the Bamboo Theatre Building Technique. Packed with the local colours, Hong Kong-style Milk Tea Making Technique is also inscribed. Other items on the Representative List maintain and strengthen the community, and establish the community's cultural identity. They are Spring and Autumn Ancestral Worship of Clans, the Tin Hau Festival in Hong Kong, Mid-Autumn Festival - the Pok Fu Lam Fire Dragon Dance, the Taoist Ritual Tradition of the Zhengyi School, as well as Sek Pun (Basin Feast). The exhibition strives to deepen the public's knowledge in these ICH items of Hong Kong.

Materials for this collection largely come from “The Oral Legacies Series II: the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong” exhibition, comprising text, photographs and audio-visual materials, to enhance people’s knowledge on Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong.
