Biography

Sheh Shue Wing was born in 1930 in his hometown Shunde. He came to Hong Kong with his father when he was 7 years old. When he was a child, he had lived in Sheung Wan and Western District. His father kept accounts for a relative who ran a tea leaf shop and the family lived in penury. Sheh Shue Wing had to quit school when Hong Kong was occupied by the Japanese after he had studied 5 months in a school located in a tenement. After the War, he worked in a tea leaf shop where he acquired knowledge about tea leaves. The proprietor of Tak Wan Tea House appreciated him and transferred him to Wan Sing Tea House in To Kwa Wan as the keeper in 1957. He was promoted as the manager within a short period of time. He held the post until the tea house closed down in 1979. After that, he had worked as a catering chef, siumei master in a Chinese restaurant and manager of a frozen meat company. Sheh Shue Wing retired in 1990 because of illness. Sheh Shue Wing has lived in To Kwa Wan since 1957. At first, he lived in a rented cubicle apartment in Sheung Heung Road. When his application for low-cost housing was approved, he was allocated a flat in Ma Tau Wai Estate. In the late 1970s, he moved out due to worsening living conditions. He purchased a flat in Kiu Wing Building on Ma Tau Wai Road, and became a member of the Owners’ Corporation in the late 1990s.
