Hsien Lung is a powerful anti-tartar clan during the early Yuan dynasty. Chung-yuan (Hui Tien-sze) is nominated to replace the late chief Fu Yi at an assembly headed by Kuang (Ku Feng) and Elder Chen (Shen Lao). The swearing-in ceremony is interrupted by Chang Hua and Mrs. Shih who produce two letters showing that Chung-yuan is in fact a tartar.Chung-yuan rushes to question his wet nurse, only to find her and her husband killed. Accused of the murder and attacked by his own brothers, Chung-yuan flees.An unsuccessful attempt to murder Meng Yi-tu (Chen Kuan-tai), a general appointed by Yuan to smash the Hsien Lung clan, results in the total loss of the men led by Chang Hua, who suffers heavy injury himself. Mrs. Shih lays the blame on Chung-yuan, who originally planned the maneuver.Whilst trying to retrieve his clan’s membership list from the general’s quarters, Chung-yuan surprises Lin Hsueh-erh (Tai Liang-chun) doing the same. Their scuffle alarms the guards, and Lin is badly hurt trying to protect Chung-yuan. He seeks treatment for her from Kuang, but Mrs. Shih rouses his former brother against him. He is taken to safety by supreme chief Chen Chin-nan (Chu Tieh-hu) and his assistant Wan Wen-lung, who had secretly arrived to probe the local organization.Chung-yuan later finds out that he is really the son of General Meng, although he was brought up as a Han by Fu Yi. He visits his own father in his military quarters, but refuses to help him against the anti-Yuan revolutionaries.Li Ta-hung (Pai Piao), in conspiracy with Yuan, and the lover of Mrs. Shih, secretly tells Meng how to attack the clan. Hsueh-erh catches the two in her quarters and exposes their plot. Meng’s men attack the Hsieh Lung mansion and inflict heavy losses. Kuang is serious injured and is captured.
