Gordon Liu’s birth name is Xian Jinxi. His family’s hometown was in Gaoming County, Guangdong. Liu was born in 1951 in Hong Kong as his family’s youngest son. Born in a wealthy family, his father owned an art and craft export company. When Liu was small, he was ill-disciplined. He spent his primary and secondary school years at Salesian School in Shau Kei Wan. During secondary school, he started to learn martial art. After graduating from F.5, he worked as a courier and later an office clerk. In 1973, he was invited by Liu Chia-liang to join the film industry and first appeared in the film Sha Chu Chong Wei (1973) as the lead male actor. In 1974, he joined the crew of Chang Cheh’s Chang’s Film Co. and make martial art films in Taiwan. After returning to Hong Kong, he further appeared in a series of martial art films directed by Liu Chia-liang, including The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1977), which made him a kung fu movie star. Subsequently, he was signed by Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) Limited. In 1986, he travelled to Taiwan once again to film TV dramas. When he returned to Hong Kong, he co-found Attraction Film Co. Ltd with Norman Chui. Since 1989, he stars in TV drama series at TVB. He is now an international actor well known in Hollywood and India.
