Ngau Tau Kok Village, another member of the ‘Thirteen Villages Association’, was demolished in the 1960s.
Ngau Tau Kok Village was a village of more than hundred years. The villagers were mainly Hakka of the Lo, Lee, Liu, Sun, and Miu lineages. Ngau Tau Kok, together with Lei Yue Mun, Sai Tso Wan and Cha Kwo Ling, were once called the ‘Four Hills’ in the Qing Dynasty. The ‘Four Hills’ were well known for their quarries. Years passed as the Ngau Tau Kok villagers quarried and farmed.
Things changed after the war. The Government took over part of the farmland in Ngau Tau Kok Village for road extension. The removal of Ngau Tau Kok Village was scheduled in 1966. On the planned day, villagers protested with banners on which they avowed to live and die with their ancestral homes. More than a hundred houses were swiftly flattened though. Life went on. Some villagers moved to Yau Tong and some built their own houses in Kowloon Bay.
