Weapons Invented by Tong Kai

Martial arts choreographer and director Tong Kai candidly confessed that he preferred martial arts choreography to directing. With a penchant for designing whimsical weapons, apart from the Gold Sword Lock in One-Armed Swordsman (1967), his ingenious inventions also include the concealed blade inside the sole of Alexander Fu Sheng in The Avenging Eagle (1978) and Ti Lung’s broken sword in The Deadly Breaking Sword (1979). The spinning sabre in The Magic Blade (1976), a hybrid of a tonfa and a sabre, is his proudest design.
