Introduction

Few Hong Kong families owned television sets in the 1960s, and for most people radio shows were the most common and popular form of entertainment. The radio was also the main medium through which Hong Kong citizens learned about current affairs. When they reported on important events, radio news teams of course could not broadcast any images, and the hosts would draw on their talents to describe in vivid detail everything that they observed. On display are the radio news broadcasts of eight major events of 1960s and 1970s’ Hong Kong. They will show you how powerful this style of news anchoring could be in those two decades.
