Down Memory Lane: Movie Theatres of the Olden Days
Recently Visited

Introduction

It is estimated that about 200 movie theatres once opened in Hong Kong but most of their information have been lost due to the lack of documentation in the early years. Based on the records of the Hong Kong Theatres Association, the studies of private collector Mr. Cheng Po Hung and film researcher Mr. Wong Ha Pak, and the own research on the Archive’s theatre-related collections, the Archive tried to plot the location of 141 old movie theatres on this map. Most of these movie theatres were of considerable size and with high historical and cultural values, each playing a significant role in the development of the local community.
