“I returned to Hong Kong in 1983, and went with artist Leung Kui Ting in summer to look at lotus flowers. I found the dusty lotus at the edge of the city much different from the lotus in classical Chinese poetry and paintings despite certain similarities… At that time I was experiencing some upheavals in life, not just because I returned to the East from the West, but it seemed I had entered another stage of being. I tried hard to look for a new form to settle amidst all the turmoil… a new form to orchestrate my thoughts on art, emotions, culture and history.”
