Ng Siu Hung was born in Nga Tsin Wai in 1943 and hails from the 25th generation of the village’s Ng Clan, coming from the Ng Hon Ko Tso descent line under the fourth branch of Ng Yat Un Tso. Ng Siu Hung’s family were indigenous inhabitants who owned three ancestral houses in Nga Tsin Wai and had lived in the walled village for several generations. His father and his eldest and youngest uncles all held senior positions in the village. Ng Siu Hung’s father worked as a farmer while young, subsequently taking a job at the air force airfield at Kai Tak. Ng Siu Hung’s childhood was spent in the walled village where he studied at Vernacular Normal School Alumni Association Primary School. After dropping out in junior secondary school, he worked in a machinery factory. Ng Siu Hung later began seafaring in the early 1970s, departing Hong Kong and criss-crossing the ocean for many years before retiring in the early 1990s. Since then he has focused helping out on village and clan affairs. In 1993, Ng Siu Hung succeeded his youngest uncle as Manager of Ng Shing Tat Tso and Ng Yat Un Tso in overseeing the clan properties. Recently he was also appointed as Deputy Village Headman of Nga Tsin Wai – a post he occupies to this day. Property developers began their acquisition of the village in the 1980s. In the early 2000s, Ng Siu Hung unsuccessfully initiated a resistance movement to counter them. He subsequently carried out acquisition negotiations with the Urban Renewal Authority (“URA”) from 2006 onwards, eventually reaching agreement with the authorities in 2011 and finally quitting the village at the end of that year.
