Lau Tik Wah was born in Hong Kong in the early 1950s. Her father, Liu Bin, was one of the founders of Champion Industrial Co. Ltd. She received primary and secondary education in Hong Kong. In 1968, she went to the USA to study at the University of California, with a major in Industrial Design and a minor in Fashion Design. She returned to join her father's company in 1975 and became her father's personal assistant. This allowed her to get familiar with the operations of different departments. From 1975, the company had reformed its mode of operation, with the aim of raising staff efficiency, setting up a direct trade model, and raising capital through bank loans. In 1975 and 1977, respectively, the company started to work with two important American clients - K-Mart and Avon. The company's business advanced steadily as a result. In the 1980s, the production line was shifted northward from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, Shanghai and Huadu. In 1993, the company expanded into the European markets and successfully acquired orders from a French company of branded products. Consequently, the company scaled up its team of designers and extended its OEM business to the USA in 1995. After the two founders passed away in 1992 and 1993, Lau Tik Wah and her younger brother took over the company’s management until today.
