Li Hon Hung was born in Hong Kong in 1933. His father operated a shoe shop in Wan Chai. Before the Second World War, Li Hon Hung studied in Tak Ying Kindergarten and Dun-mei School Primary Section. During wartime, he studied in a si-su (an old-style private school) and Chi Hang School Primary Section. After the war, he studied in Tuen Ching School and the the Northcote College of Education’s Subsidiary Secondary School (which later merged with the Government Vernacular Middle School into the Government Vernacular Senior Middle School). Li Hon Hung was one of the first graduates from the the Grantham Teaching College (later renamed Grantham College of Education) in 1952. He had taught in government primary schools untilretired in 1988, a teaching career of 36 years. Over this period, he had witnessed the implementation of different educational policies and the development of government primary schools.
