MY Wong was born in Hong Kong in 1924. She was brought up in a Christian family. Her maternal grandmother and mother used to run a school. She received her primary and secondary education at Ming Ngai School (a private school set up by her maternal grandmother), Primary Section of Munsang College, Sau Fong Girls Vocational School (set up by her mother),Yu Lok School, Girls' Division of Southwestern College, True Light Girls' College at Beihedong (Guangzhou) and others one after another. To become a teacher, she studied at kindergarten secton of Heep Woh Girls' Normal School at Macau. Upon graduation, she taught at Wah Ying Primary School in Hong Kong. During Japanese Occupation, she had taught at a nursary school, an experimental school and a primary school in Qujiang, Guilin, Chengdu and Guangzhou in China. After the war, she had been a teacher at Hong Kong True Light Primary School and True Light Kindergarten for 38 years until her retirement in the early 1980s. After teaching at kindergartens for many years, MY Wong saw the importance of building up good habits in students.
