The History of F Hall, Victoria Prison
F Hall sits on the site of the Printing Shop and weaving shed that built in 1898. It was re-built in the 1930s. The 1955 renovation of the building turned the ground floor into the Reception and Classification Centre.
The first floor of F Hall, Victoria Prison
The first floor of F Hall was built as a dormitory with a workshop. It mainly housed female prisoners prior to the prison’s decommissioning.
The Female Inmates in F Hall Worked and Lived in the same area
The common room and workshop on the first floor of F Hall are one and the same. The female inmates were only given simply work since they mostly recidivated with short term or balance of sentence.
