During the early part of the Ching Dynasty, Royal guard Che Lien-chia (Lo Lieh) is ordered to wipe out the Hung clan. As the Hung base is fallen, Hung Hsi-kuan (Lo Meng) is pursued and loses his clan’s golden medal, which eventually falls into the hands of Fang Shih-yu (Wang Yu). Fang’s mother Miao Tsui-hua (Yuan Chiu) orders her son to return the medal to Hung and then arranges for him and Hu Hui-chien (Chien Hsiao-hou) to follow Hung to join the Shaolin Temple.The three become the pupils of the South Court under Master Chia Chen (Kuo Chue). Brawls often occur between pupils of the South and those of the North led by Wu Ching (Gordon Liu Chia-hui) and Wu Tsing (Huang Shu-kuang).Che leads his men to the Shaolin Temple to force the hand-over of Hung. Both Masters Chia Chen and Chia Hsiung (Li Hai-shen) are not his match, but Che leaves after being outmaneuvered by Fang. The monks decide to expel Hung out of the Temple to avoid direct conflict with the Imperial Court, but the abbot objects. Finally, Hung decides to leave of his own volition.While sneaking out to meet a girl Chu-chu (Chang Chao-mei). Fang and Hu are attacked by Che who has been hiding in the vicinity.
