Upon arrival in Bangkok, Chen Chung-chiang leaves the plane, taking with him by mistake Paul’s briefcase, leaving his own behind. Engine trouble keeps Paul overnight in Bangkok.Finding a small box containing a golden Buddha in the briefcase, Paul decides to return it to Chung-chiang. On entering the latter’s deserted house, Paul comes across a corpse. A note on a table written - Deliver the Golden Buddha to Chen Chung-tai and Chen Mei-lan…Closer inspection of the briefcase reveals a letter to Chen Chung-chiang from Chen Chung-tai which says all clues to the recovery of the heirloom are kept in the three golden Buddhas. Screwing up and Paul makes the Buddha open into two equal parts. A secret message in Thai is found. Paul goes to a tattoo shop to have the message tattooed on his leg, then he files it away.The next morning, he is ordered by two men dressed as policemen to leave the hotel with the briefcase. En route to Singapore, insurance agent Paul Chang meets friend Chen Chung-chiang who is returning to Bangkok. Upon arrival in Bangkok, Chen Chung-chiang leaves the plane, taking with him by mistake Paul’s briefcase, leaving his own behind. Engine trouble keeps Paul overnight in Bangkok.Finding a small box containing a golden Buddha in the briefcase, Paul decides to return it to Chung-chiang. On entering the latter’s deserted house, Paul comes across a corpse. A note on a table written - Deliver the Golden Buddha to Chen Chung-tai and Chen Mei-lan…Closer inspection of the briefcase reveals a letter to Chen Chung-chiang from Chen Chung-tai which says all clues to the recovery of the heirloom are kept in the three golden Buddhas. Screwing up and Paul makes the Buddha open into two equal parts. A secret message in Thai is found. Paul goes to a tattoo shop to have the message tattooed on his leg, then he files it away.The next morning, he is ordered by two men dressed as policemen to leave the hotel with the briefcase. He is knocked out and the briefcase taken. On board a train looking for Chen Chung-tai who meets a girl who identifies herself as Chen Mei-lan. Paul doesn’t want to be tricked again and the girl walks off sensing he is suspicious of her.The badly bruised Chung-tai urges Paul to look for his sister Mei-lan. He learns from Mei-lan that the Golden Buddha was buried with her mother. Exhuming the body, they find the Buddha missing. They manage to retrieve it in a nightclub but are both kidnapped soon after. The kidnappers try to force Paul to reveal the secret of the Buddha, but fail. The couple is locked up in a dungeon and meet an injured Chen Chung-tai.Paul subdues the guards and they escape by a secret passage; the three then piece together their separate pieces of information and the exact location of the Chen heirloom is discovered. In pursuit of the escapees, Chung-tai is shot dead. Paul and Mei-lan rush to a temple to grab the heirloom. The gangsters catch up and capture them. The ringleader turns out to be the real Chen Chung-tai. Paul and he struggle desperately. Scattered jewels on the ground tempt the other thugs to join the fray. Chen Chung-tai attempts to escape on hearing the police siren but is felled by Mei-lan. He is arrested.Date | 1966 |
