Secret Service Of The Imperial Court
The Chin Yi Secret Service was originally created by the Emperor of Ming to suppress rebellions. However, during the reign of Emperor Ying Tsung, the Secret Service was under the control of Eunuch Wang Chen (Liu Yung) who used the Secret Service to eliminate dissidents. Chao Pu-fan (Liang Chia-jen) is the Service’s loyal and dedicated Captain responsible for training new members, while his father Wu-chi (Ku Feng) is the Chief. When Pu-fan’s brother Pu-chun (Lo Meng), a new member, disobeys an order to kill during training, Chief Chao must have him beheaded in order to maintain the public’s confidence.After executing several orders to kill innocent loyalists, Pu-fan soon realizes he is nothing more than Wang’s killing instrument. He confronts his father, but Wu-chi, fearing retribution against all his nine clans, orders him to carry on. Later, when Pu-fan secretly releases several innocent people he was ordered to kill, Wang orders Wu-chi to kill his own son and sends Tsao Chi-chiang (Kao Fei) to secretly watch the execution of his order. Pursued by the guards, Pu-fan escapes with his wife Hsueh (Hu Kuan-chen) and his son Ding Dong. After some desperate fighting, he eventually kills Tsao and joins his Uncle Wu-che (Lo Lieh) in the country.With the lives of his clans in his hands, Wu-chi is given a deadline to hand over the head of Pu-fan to the Capital and he secretly instructs Wu-che to kill Pu-fan. Wu-che, his daughter Hsiao-lan (Liu Yu-po) and other members of the family try to trap Pu-fan, but Wu-che is killed instead. Hsiao Lan tries to poison her cousin with wine, but fails and is herself killed. Finally, Pu-chun, whose execution had been faked, offers his own head to save his brother Pu-fan. Hsueh kills herself in return for her brother-in-law’s sacrifice.Pu-fan returns with his son to the Capital and kills Wang in a bloody duel, thus ridding the people of his evil rule.
