Cinema Chains in Hong Kong

In the 1950s, right at the moment when Shaw Run-de and his son turned to real estates, Shaw Run-run returned to Hong Kong. In 1958, he allied with Shaw Run-me to inaugurate Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) Limited (Shaw Brothers for short). They developed the business of film production in Hong Kong, purchased a piece of land in Clearwater Bay, built a studio on the Clearwater Bay site and institutionalized the film production business whose streamline operation had an annual production capacity of over 40 films. On another front, Shaw Brothers continuously expanded its film chains by setting up its own chains in Hong Kong, purchasing old cinemas and the right of management, as well as building alliance with large-scale cinemas, such as King’s Theatre and Hollywood Theatre, and inviting them to join Shaw’s chains.
