Crocodile Garments

Lee Wah Man Shirt Factory (now Crocodile Garments Limited) was established in 1952 in Hong Kong Mr. Chan Shun. The brand “Crocodile Garments” was created with the implication that its products are as “tough and luxurious as crocodile skin”. The company first set up a booth at the 11th Exhibition of Hong Kong Products (1953-1954) and has ever since participated actively in the subsequent exhibitions. Its booths were known for its eye-catching promotion tactics. Lee Wah Man placed a lot of emphasis on booth design, with the booths of every exhibition featuring large and impressive “Crocodile Garments” sign board. The exhibition booths of Crocodile Garments Ltd. have for numerous times won the awards for booth decoration. Besides attracting visitors using unique booth designs, Lee Wah Man has created a exhibition spectacle during the 1950s by setting up a crocodile pit in their booth, exhibiting real crocodiles from Southeast Asia. During each exhibition, Lee Wah Man employed “Crocodile ladies” to serve as promoter. These “Crocodile ladies” were chosen by Mrs Chan. She also gave these ladies etiquette and speech trainings at home. At the exhibition booth, Crocodile ladies were dressed in uniforms as they helped the male clients to take their collar measurements. It was a classic scene of the era.
