Law Pui was born in 1930 his native place of Shunde in a farming family. In 1948, he came to work in Hong Kong through a relative’s referral at Hing Wah Battery Factory in Mong Kok. He had attended school for a few months in his native place, and took several months of evening class in Hong Kong organised by trade union. He initially was a handyman in Hing Wah, responsible for making black battery cores. During the same time, he underwent training in the machine maintenance department, and in 1953 became a maintenance technician. Due to good performance at work, he was continuously promoted. In 1973, he left Hing Wah but returned in 1976 as maintenance department head for nearly four years. He later moved on to other battery factories to work on machine maintenance. He changed to another industry in the 1980s and finally retired in 2005. Law Pui initially lived Mong Kok when he first arrived in Hong Kong. In the early 1950s, he married his fellow factory worker, Ms Liu, and together the couple lived in a tenement house in Mong Kok after wedding. In the mid-1960s, they moved to the new Kai Ming Mansion in San Po Kong. In 1953 or 1954, Hing Wah moved to a new site on To Kwa Wan Road. Both Law and Liu worked in To Kwan Wan for more than 20 years.
