In 1942, Kan Tai Keung was born in San Shan Village in Panyu. In 1957, he settled in Hong Kong. At the beginning he worked as a tailoring apprentice. In 1964, he began to learn drawings and watercolours from his uncle. Later he signed up for design course and watercolours course taught by Wucius Wong and Lui Shou Kwan respectively in Department of Extramural Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 1960s and 1970s Kan worked in the design industry and subsequenty started his own company. He won many awards worldwide and was elected as one of the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons". He was the first Chinese to be included in “Who's Who in Graphic Design” of Switzerland. He was awarded a BBS in 1999. In 2003, he became facutly head of Cheung Kong School of Arts & Design in Shantou University. He was offered a honorary doctorate by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2005. For many years he had organized solo exhibitions in the US, Europe and Asia to present his masterpieces of art and design. Various museum and art organizations in Europe and Asia collected his design works.
