Kwok Yung was born in 1932 in Hong Kong. When she was a child, she lived in Lai Chi Kok and Sheung Wan. Her father ran a Chinese medicine shop at Jervois Street. She attended school before the war but her schooling was suspended in December 1941 while she was studying primary 2. Her entire family returned to their hometown She was back to Hong Kong in 1950 and lived with her elder sister. Later she landed a job as a housemaid in Tsim Sha Tsui until she got married in 1963. After marriage she moved in with her husband to Yau Ma Tei. In 1964 they moved to a cubicle flat in Ferry Point. The next year they became a principal tenant in Man Yuen Building. Since 1984 they bought flats in Eight Man Buildings. In her 30-year career as a landlady, she had encountered troublesome tenants. Sometimes she had to suffer a loss to send a thief away. She was mother of 4 sons and a full-time housewife from 1963 to 1973. Afterwards, she resumed her housemaid profession until retirement in 1992. She witnessed the change in the community over the past decades and built up a harmonious relation with neighbors.
