Lai Yiu Kai

Biography

Lai Yiu Kai was born in 1939. He lived in Wan Chai during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong and his primary school years. He studied in the privately-run Lai Kwan School. Later, he joined his father’s trade as a cement worker and transferredto the free evening school run by the Pun U Association. But he did not complete the primary education because his family moved to Kowloon.Lai Yiu Kai had worked as Quality Controller in a fabric company for nearly 30 years. He hadgood knowledge of the fabric company’s operationand contribution in the textile industry andthe industry’s ups and downs. From there, he had developed his unique outlook on life. Because Lai Yiu Kai had moved his home several times,his account covered the communities and living environments of various districts, namely Wan Chai, Happy Valley, Yau Ma Tei, Sham Shui Po and Shatin.
