Leung Yuk Jan was born in Hong Kong in 1925. Her family ran the drayage business and provided her a stable life from childhood to adolescence. Leung Yuk Jan received primary and secondary education at various schools, including the To Chi Girls’School, Lai Chack Girls’ Secondary School, Heung Kong Middle School and the school run by the Methodist Centre in Wan Chai. When she was in Senior Secondary 3, she changed to a school to study business courses run by Guangzhou University. However, she did not complete the course because of the Second World War. During the Japanese Occupation, she fled with her fiancé to his native place and they got married there. After the War, she returned to Hong Kong and helped her husband’s family with their oyster sauce business. The business closed down in the 1960s and she began to work in the factory. After her husband died in 1970, she remarried and had a better living.
