In 1925Ma Ho Fu was born in Hong Kong. She was abandoned by her parents. She was brought up by her godmothers and her adoptive mother, the period during which she received education. Ma benefited from the ease of movement between Hong Kong and Mainland China in the pre-war period and schooled in both places. She finished both primary and secondary education in Hong Kong Pui Ching School, Guangzhou Zhixin School, Guangzhou City Primary School, Guangzhou Provincial Girl’s Secondary School and Hong Kong Tack Ching Girl’s Secondary School. She received her teacher qualification in Guangzhou, Guangdong Provincial Guangzhou Girl’s Normal School and received Hong Kong teacher qualification at Northcote College of Education. In the post-war period, she was referred by family members and friends to teach at several private primary schools, which included Cheung Chau Han Chuan Primary School, Tai Po Sung Tak School, True Light Primary School of Hong Kong, St. Joan of Arc Primary School and Maryland College. In 1980s, she taught in Tai Kok Tsui Catholic Primary School (AM) until she retired in 1985.
